Nice House You Have Here, Mercury Morris

The 1972 Dolphins’ running back, Mercury Morris, has been fielding a lot of interviews as the Patriots continue to win. Earlier in the season he was noted as saying, “Don’t call me when you get to my town. Call me when your next door moving your furniture in.” A few weeks later (in the video below) he said the Patriots were on the turnpike. Mercury Morris, might want to go next door to borrow a cup of sugar. At 17-0, the same record as the 1972 Dolphins, that’s where the Patriots live now.

Mercury Morris says that the zero is the important part and the fact that the Patriots have to win two extra games is irrelevant. I hate to get logical, but with each game, there’s a chance to lose. Even Mercury Morris notes that on any given Sunday any team can lose. The Patriots shouldn’t be penalized for playing in an era were there are more Sundays.

Someone should point to Mercury Morris that his Dolphins played teams with a 70-108-4 combined record and only win 2 games against .500 or better teams. In just the regular season, the Patriots opponents were 94-89. That record climbs with the win over the Jaguars and this weekend’s game against the Chargers.

Even if the Patriots lose this weekend, the 1972 Dolphins no longer stand alone.

  • You never know until they play the game(s), but with the Colts and Cowboys out, I like our chances of going 19-0.

  • I wanted to play the Cowboys I wanted to excise my Bledsoe ghost and also, little Romo-boy is distracted lol.

It’d be satisfying to repeat a Packers-Patriots superbowl though with a different outcome. :)
